The Shawnee High (OK) Alumni Association(SHSAA) conducts fundraiser events and campaigns throughout the year to support its mission. The money that is raised is used to support activities such as maintaining communication with Alumni members and providing financial support to SHS graduates through the grant scholarships for continuing education. The alumni association effort is all volunteer. All revenue realized after actual operating costs is directed towards education grants and furthering the bond between previous SHS students.
While not every alumnus lives close enough to attend events, anyone can help be donating by one of the methods below. The SHSAA has been designated by the Internal Revenue Service as a Section 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization which qualifies all donations to be tax deductible. Contributions are allocated to individual projects according to the descriptions on this page. Contributions are confirmed by sending an email to the donar.
College Scholarships
Donations made for college scholarhips are awarded through the Shawnee School System. Each year an awards banquent is held for outstanding teachers and Shawnee High students. Winners are announced and scholarship grants are announced during the ceremony.
Recipients are selected with input from Shawnee School staff. Scholarship funds are deposited directly with the educational institution where the winning students enroll. The SHSAA has historically contributed to this cause.
Vocational-Technical Training
Donation made to this category will be awarded to candidates selected from a list of applicants for vocational/technical training.
Vocational/technical training develops skills to be applied to careers such as construction, maintenance/repair, and health care support. These training curriculums are typically much shorter than college degree programs. Students that do not feel that a college degree program is currently appropriate or in reach may use this training to establish themselves more quickly into the job market.
To qualify for this award, applications are submitted by potential grantees and evaluated with the help of of vocational/technical counselors such as those of the Gordon Cooper Technology Center and Shawnee High School.
School Supplies
School Supplies for the Underprivileged
Help Shawnee students who are having difficulty obtaining basic supplies needed to attend school.
SHSAA Reunions and General Fund
The SHSAA General Fund provides a funding base that may be used for mutiple SHSAA purposes. The SHSAA's major costs are incurred as a result of organizing and conducting reunion events. Ticket sales for the events, however, recover the costs and add additional revenue to the fund.
Ongoing minor costs such as office supplies and postage are also obtained from this fund. The majority of the General Fund is then distributed to the other charitable projects on this page.
